Nikola Tesla lived and studied in Karlovac from 1870 to 1873. He attended the Imperial and Royal High School (today's Gymnasium Karlovac), where he acquired his first technical knowledge and was especially interested in physics.

The video for "Earth Song" - Michael Jackson was shot in several locations around the world. One of these locations was filmed during the Homeland War in 1995, on the front lines in the ruined Karlovac district of Turanj.
Croatian theater, television, and film actress Olga Pakalović also appear in the video. She was 16 when she was chosen as one of the children in the war parts of the video. Although they were looking for younger children, they told her that she reminded them of young Elizabeth Taylor.

Karlovac played an Italian city. Italian police vehicles and police officers could be seen on the streets.

To shoot the film, a part of the Old Square in Karlovac was turned into a place where street works take place. Some other scenes for this film were shot in the vicinity of Karlovac.
